  Speeding Tickets By Gap Timing

What is Gap Timing For Speeding Tickets?

In the context of speeding tickets, the term "gap timing" generally refers to a method employed to measure a vehicle's speed between two points. This technique can be utilized both automatically and manually for the purpose of speed enforcement.

How Does Gap Timing Work?

Monitoring Points:

Police Officers and/or Cameras and/or or sensors are strategically positioned at distinct locations along a road, usually various feet apart.

Tracking Vehicle Movement:

On the auto system:

It logs the time at which a vehicle crosses both monitoring points.

Manual System:

The police officer make notes on the data of the monitoring points of targeted vehicles.

Gap Timing Speed Calculation:

The auto or manual system determines the vehicle's average speed between the two points. If the average speed surpasses the designated speed limit, the driver of the target vehicle may receive a speeding citation, from the stemming of a probable cause traffic stop.
