We can help!

The Offices of Perry J. Zucker, Degreed Engineers, is a reputable and accomplished forensic engineering firm that has been operating since 1993. Our team consists of highly skilled professionals, including in-house engineers, technicians, and support staff. We specialize in assisting defendants, attorneys and law enforcement agencies,  with police Mvars coupled with speed measuring devices for speeding tickets / violations, specifically for probable cause traffic stops / reasonable suspicion traffic stops.

Role and Responsibility of the Expert Witness - Engineer

An engineer expert witness (EEW) is an individual with extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of engineering. Their role is to assist the judicial system, including judges, juries, and lawyers, in comprehending the technical aspects relevant to their case. They may be called upon to elucidate the application of scientific principles to specific situations involving laws and regulations. The EEW may provide testimony regarding the utilization of police Mvars integrated with speed measuring devices such as: radar, lidar / laser, pacing, timing and visual estimation/observation, the characteristics of the specific roadway, and the appropriate use of the aforementioned device. It is important to emphasize that all of our conclusions are solely based on evidence-backed data rather than mere conjecture.

Here are the key responsibilities of an expert witness in such cases:

  1. Technical Explanation: The expert witness provides a detailed technical explanation of how M-VARS coupled with speed measuring devices operate, such as radar, laser / lidar, timing, pacing, etc.
  2. Accuracy and Reliability: They testify to the accuracy and reliability of the speed measuring device used in the case.
  3. Training and Certification: The expert witness outlines their own qualifications, training, and certification in using speed measuring devices. This helps establish their credibility in interpreting and presenting technical data to the court.
  4. Evidence Interpretation: They interpret the data obtained from the speed measuring device and explain its significance to the court. This includes clarifying how the speed measurement was taken, any relevant environmental conditions, and potential factors that may affect accuracy.
  5. Cross-Examination: During cross-examination, the expert witness defends their testimony against challenges from the defense. They may also address any discrepancies or alternative interpretations of the technical evidence presented.

Overall, the expert witness serves to educate the court on the technical aspects of the case, ensuring that judges and jurors can make informed decisions based on reliable evidence. Their role is critical in providing clarity and impartiality regarding the technical details of speed measurement in the context of speeding tickets or traffic violation cases.

What are police Mvars?

Mobile Video Audio Recorder Systems (MVARS) are utilized by police officers to document traffic stops, including offenses such as speeding, violations of traffic signs or signals, and traffic accidents, similar to the functionality of a dash cam. These systems are primarily activated by the emergency lights of the police vehicle.

The system is designed to capture a wide field of view of the events, producing video and audio files that can be downloaded for use in court. Additionally, it may be integrated with speed measurement devices such as radar, laser, lidar, gap timing, or pacing tools.

How do MVars work? / Understanding M-Vars for Speed:

The Mobile Video and Audio Recording (MVAR) system captures video and audio (similar to a dash cam) for potential use in legal proceedings. The police officer may utilize visual estimation (varies by the state), in conjunction with speed measurement devices, to enforce speed limit regulations and issue citations for speeding violations.

MVARS Speeding Ticket: Expert Analysis

Review all documents and evidence that the officer plans to present on the scheduled trial date. Many officers who issue speeding tickets employ various speed measurement devices, including radar, laser/lidar, pacing, clocking, gap timing, Vascar, and Robic, often in conjunction with visual estimations or observations, depending on the state. These officers are regarded as experts in operating these devices. To build the strongest defense, it is recommended to consult an expert witness who specializes in the use of police radar, laser, lidar, pacing, gap timing, Vascar, and Robic speed measurement devices, as well as visual estimation, police training, vehicle characteristics, and court regulations. Additionally, it is important to note that trials conducted by declaration (via mail) often have a low success rate in certain states.
