Street Racing Driving / Exhibition of Speed - Expert

Sometimes referred to as "speed competitions," all states have some type of laws which prohibits street racing and/or speed competition and exhibition of speed.  Depending on the type of oral agreement the  drivers have, they can start the race from a standstill and/or race to and from a designated point of motion.   Exhibition of Speed is usually involving one vehicle which shows spinning, smoking and squealing  tires,  extreme acceleration and high velocity.  In some cases law enforcement will use a speed measuring device, such as radar, lidar, laser, gap time, pacing / clock  and/or visual estimation to determine the speed of said vehicle. 

Proper Operating Procedure - Speed Measuring Devices Expert Witness

All speed measuring devices should be calibrated at various time intervals. Secondly, the operator should be trained in the proper use of the said device. Thirdly, the officer should perform a series of tests (as per manufacturer recommendations and State laws) as well as a traffic history of the general enforcement area.

Police Officers / Troopers that issue this specific type of violations or in some states are called citations are "Experts" in the operation of these aforementioned devices.
